Notion AI Meeting Notes Now Triggers Custom Agents: Your Post-Meeting Work Runs Itself
The meeting ends. The AI gets to work.
Think about what happens right after a meeting. You summarize the notes, move action items into tasks, post a recap to the team channel, and update the project tracker. That is typically 10–30 minutes of repetitive work after every call.
On July 30, 2026, Notion launched a feature that handles all of that automatically: AI Meeting Notes can now trigger Custom Agents the moment a summary is complete. The finished meeting note becomes the starting gun for automated follow-up.
How It Works
The flow is straightforward:
- The meeting ends and Notion AI Meeting Notes finishes generating a summary
- That completion fires the Meeting note summarized trigger on a Custom Agent
- The pre-configured agent executes the defined tasks automatically
No human needs to be involved. By the time you walk out of the meeting room, the follow-up work is already running.
What a Custom Agent Can Do
Convert Action Items into Notion Tasks Automatically
The agent scans the meeting summary for action items — "draft proposal by next Friday," "schedule follow-up call" — and creates them as tasks in a Notion database. Assignees, due dates, and project links can all be set automatically.
Update Project Trackers
Progress discussed in the meeting gets reflected in the project database. If "phase one development confirmed complete" was mentioned, the corresponding status field updates without anyone touching it.
Modify CRM Records
After a sales call, customer information and deal stages update automatically in the CRM. The time salespeople spend on manual data entry after calls disappears.
Send Summaries to Slack
Team members who missed the meeting receive the key points and action items automatically in the relevant Slack channel.
Setup: Three Steps
- Open Custom Agent settings in Notion
- Add the trigger: select "Meeting note summarized"
- Specify which meetings should activate the agent
From that point on, every time the designated meeting type ends, the agent fires automatically.
An EdTech Perspective
Schools and educational institutions run a lot of meetings — staff meetings, parent consultations, project sessions, department check-ins. Manually processing notes and follow-up tasks after each one is a significant time drain for educators.
With Custom Agents, each meeting type gets its own agent. When a staff meeting ends, the agent logs key decisions to the school database and sends action items to the relevant teachers. Educators can focus on the meeting itself and hand off the recordkeeping.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Custom Agents are available on specific Notion plans — check current plan requirements
- Review and define the data scope the agent can access in its settings
- Test the agent carefully on the first run to make sure it is referencing the correct databases
Practical Tips
- Build a separate agent for each meeting type: Sales calls, team standups, and strategy sessions need different post-meeting workflows
- Start simple: Begin with a Slack summary, then layer in more complex automations as confidence grows
- Be specific about which meetings trigger the agent: Applying it to every meeting can generate unnecessary noise
