What Changed: The End of "Mode Switching"

Previously there was a clear boundary between casual Q&A and Cowork tasks. You had to enter Cowork to create documents. No longer.

In the new unified experience, the following all live within a single conversational flow:

Scheduled Tasks: Runs Even When Your Device Is Off

The second major change in this update is server-side execution of scheduled tasks.

Once a scheduled task is configured, your device no longer needs to be on. The task runs on Anthropic''s servers and results are saved to your Claude account. Close your laptop, lock your phone — work continues.

New Models: Claude Fable 5.1 and Sonnet 5.5

Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 launched on September 1, 2026. Claude Sonnet 5.5 followed on September 28. Sonnet 5.5 generates output more than 30% faster than Sonnet 5, positioned as a faster, lower-cost complement to Opus 5.5.
